Cancer Survivors Day was established in 1988 in the United States with a very clear goal: to recognize and give a voice to those who, after a cancer diagnosis, continue their life journey. A time to pause and remember that the disease does not define the person and that life after treatment exists, with new awareness, new balances and new challenges.
Over time, this initiative has crossed borders, arriving also in Italy thanks to the efforts of LILT Milan. On Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 9 a.m., Piazza Duomo will host a new Milanese edition of the event: a collective yoga session led by Francesca Senette, a journalist and certified teacher, open to patients, former patients, caregivers and all those who would like to be present to support the value of this day.
Why we stand with LILT
More than 3.7 million people in Italy today live with an oncological diagnosis behind them (Source: AIOM - The Numbers of Cancer 2023). Every year there are about 395,000 new diagnoses (214,000 men and 181,000 women), with survival rates steadily improving thanks to advances in prevention, early detection and treatment.
According to the 17th FAVO Report 2024, however, returning to daily life after the disease often remains complex. In particular, reintegration into work is still one of the most reported difficulties among cancer patients:
Work, in this context, is not only an economic issue: it is also stability, autonomy and planning.
This is why we chose to be LILT's technical partner in this initiative: because the issue of quality of life after illness concerns us closely. Creating a caring and inclusive work culture is, to all intents and purposes, part of the care journey.
Beyond the day: a commitment that continues
The appointment in Piazza Duomo is an important moment to raise awareness and keep the spotlight on an often less obvious issue: the return to life after illness. A journey that involves everyone and that also passes through the ability to ensure new opportunities for those who restart.
La Soluzione S.p.A. stands by those who face new beginnings every day, in and out of the world of work.
